let’s make Christmas tree Rice Krispie treats!
First, line the baking tray with parchment paper or wax paper.
Spray a large bowl with cooking spray. Place the cereal in the bowl and set aside.
microwave version
Place the butter and marshmallows in a large microwave-safe bowl.
Heat on high for 1 minute. Stir the marshmallows until they start to melt.
Heat for an additional 15 seconds and let the bowl sit in the microwave for one minute. Stir the marshmallows very well until smooth, using the residual heat to fully melt the mixture.
Stir in green food coloring until desired shade is achieved.
Pour the marshmallow mixture over the cereal and mix very well.
When cool to the touch, scoop ½ cup of the mixture and pat into a ball. Shape the treat into a rough pyramid and place on the tray.
Complete with the rest of the treats. You should have about 12 trees.
Chill for 10 minutes. The trees will be much easier to shape as they cool. Roll and shape your trees and let firm completely, about 40 more minutes.
stove-top method
In a saucepan, place the butter over medium-low heat.
After about half of the butter is melted, add the marshmallows.
Continue to heat, stirring well, until most of the marshmallows are melted. Remove from the heat and keep stirring until the mixture is very smooth.
Follow the rest of the instructions above.
assemble and decorate your Christmas trees
Feel free to decorate your tree treats any way you like! Pipe icing garland and ornaments, or add small candies.
Here, I sprinkled powdered sugar over each using a mesh strainer. If you don't have a strainer, take a spoonful of powdered sugar and hold over the trees. Gently tap the spoon with your other hand.
Add a star sprinkle and place on an unwrapped, overturned Reese's Peanut Butter Cup.
