If you are looking to make quick and easy galaxy-themed desserts, this tutorial is for you!
You'll need to start by making a batch of our very best Rice Krispie Treats. It will take you about 15 minutes to get a pan of treats made, then you'll need to allow them to cool for at least 30 minutes.
Once cooled, cut the pan of treats into rectangles. Then the fun begins!
Decorating these treats is quick and easy and should take you about 30 minutes. Your kids can even help add the sprinkles and icing decorations.
Ingredients
Rice Krispie Treats - be sure to use the recipe below to make the very best-tasting treats using just the right ratio of butter (we suggest using salted European-style butter for the best flavor), marshmallows, and crisp rice cereal.
blue, black, and white frosting - I used tubes of Wilton Decorator Icing and it worked great and was super easy. You simply pipe the frosting onto the cereal treat then spread it around and swirl the colors together.
galaxy sprinkles - I used Wilton's galaxy sprinkles but you can use any galaxy sprinkles that you like.
edible glitter stars - I used Wilton Edible Accents silver and gold glitter stars.
planet, star, and moon icing decorations - I used a box of assorted icing decorations from Wilton's new galaxy collection. They are a perfect size and they taste great too.
NOTE: While this post was not sponsored by Wilton, I did receive a free box filled with galaxy decorating supplies from Wilton which I used to create these treats. You can find some of the items to make these Galaxy treats over at Amazon. I earn a small commission when you purchase using the links below at no extra cost to you.

Galaxy Rice Krispie Treats
Equipment
- 1 9x13-inch baking pan
- 1 large mixing bowl
- 1 silicone spatula or wooden spoon
- 1 medium saucepan
Ingredients
Rice Krispie Treats
- 6 tablespoons salted butter, (useEuropean-style salted butter for the best flavor)
- 16 ounces marshmallows
- 7 cups Rice Krispies Cereal
Decorations
- 1 (8-ounce) pouch Wilton blue decorator icing
- 1 (8-ounce) pouch Wilton blue decorator icing
- 1 (8-ounce) pouch Wilton white decorator icing
- 1 pinch Wilton edible gold or silver glitter stars
- 1-2 tablespoons Wilton galaxy sprinkles
- 1-2 boxes Wilton planet, moon, and stars icing decorations
Instructions
Rice Krispies Treats
- Grease a 9 inch by 13-inch baking pan, a large mixing bowl, and a silicone spatula or wooden spoon with butter or baking spray.
- Pour the Rice Krispies Cereal into the large mixing bowl.
- Begin melting the butter in a medium-large saucepan set over low heat, then stir in the marshmallows.
- Continue to melt, stirring often, until about 75% of the marshmallows have melted.
- Remove the pan from the heat and stir vigorously until all of the marshmallows have melted. This will give your treats a perfectly chewy (not hard) texture!
- Pour the melted marshmallows over the Rice Krispies Cereal and toss to evenly coat.
- Spread the mixture into the buttered pan and gently press into an even layer.
- Let the cereal treats cool for at least 30 minutes before cutting them into 18 rectangles. If you want perfectly-shaped rectangles, trim off about ¼-inch around the edges of the treats.
Decorations
- Pipe or spread a thin layer of blue frosting over one of your cereal treats, then pipe a few dabs or streaks of white and black food coloring over top.
- Use an offset spatula or small spoon to swirl the frosting colors together making your treat look like the night sky.
- Immediately, while the frosting is soft, decorate it by adding edible glitter stars, galaxy sprinkles, and planet, moon, or star-shaped icing decorations.
- Repeat, decorating all of your treats.
