If you love peanut butter and chocolate, you will go nuts over these irresistible Reese's Puffs Peanut Butter Cup Rice Krispie Treats. We've kicked up the classic Rice Krispies treat a notch by using chocolatey Reese's Puffs Minis cereal and tossed in some Reese's Cups to make them extra peanut buttery.

Reese's Puffs Minis Cereal Treats made with marshmallows and Reese's Cups.

Chocolate and peanut butter are my favorite flavor combination so I am excited to share this recipe with you.

I'm not sure how long the minis cereals will stick around in the grocery stores, but they are the perfect shape and size to make treats so I'm planning to make a variety of treats using them.

This easy no-bake recipe is perfect for kids, parties, or a quick sweet treat anytime. So ditch the oven and whip up a batch of these delightful Reese's Puffs Rice Krispie Treats today!

Reese's Puffs Minis Crispy Treats ingredients

Ingredients

  • Reese's Puffs Minis Cereal
  • butter - We always recommend using European-Style salted butter because it has more butterfat (more flavor) than American-made butter. My favorite brands are Kerrygold and President Butter.
  • marshmallows - You can use mini or regular-sized marshmallows. We highly recommend using Jet-Puffed Marshmallows. After making hundreds of batches of Rice Krispie Treats, we have found they have the best texture. Some store-brand marshmallows are way too sticky.
  • Reese's Cups - Chop 12 miniature peanut butter cups into small pieces to toss into the cereal treat mixture and chop another 3 to sprinkle over the top of the cereal bars. If you use any other size Reese's Cup, you'll need 4.5 ounces.

Instructions

melt butter, add marshmallows, heat over low until 75% melted, then remove from heat and stir until melted.

Melt 4 tablespoons of salted butter in a saucepan set over LOW heat. Stir in 10 ounces of marshmallows. Heat, stirring often, until about 75% of the marshmallows have melted. Remove from the heat and stir until melted.

Pouring melted butter and marshmallows over a bowl of Reese's Puffs Minis.

Grease a large mixing bowl with butter and then fill it with 6 cups of Reese's Puffs Minis cereal. Toss in 12 of the Reese's Cups (chopped into pieces.) Pour the melted butter and marshmallows over the cereal.

Tip:

We recommend you allow the marshmallows to melt slowly over low heat. Removing the pan from the heat before they are all melted ensures the marshmallows don't get too hot. When you overheat the marshmallows, the sugars crystallize causing hard treats.

Grease a 9-inch (or 8-inch) square baking pan with butter. Spread the cereal mixture into an even layer.

Gently press the remaining Reese's Cup pieces over the pan of cereal treats. You want them to stick but you don't want to smash them too much.

Let the treats cool at room temperature for at least 45 minutes. Then cut them into 9 rectangles or 12 squares.

Variations

Mix in some Reese's Pieces to add color and crunch to these Reese's Puffs Minis Cereal Bars or toss in a handful of peanuts for an extra nutty flavor.

Drizzle on a topping made with chocolate and peanut butter. See our Chex Mix Bars for the quick and easy topping recipe.

Or, take a note from our Scotcheroos recipe and add a thick layer of creamy peanut butter chocolate.

Equipment

  • 1 extra-large mixing bowl
  • 1 9-inch (or 8-inch) square non-stick baking pan
  • 1 silicone spatula or wooden spoon
  • 1 medium-large saucepan

Ingredients

  • 6 cups Reese's Puffs Minis Cereal
  • 4 tablespoons European-style salted butter (like Kerrygold or President butter)
  • 10 ounces Jet-Puffed Marshmallows
  • 15 Reese's Cup Miniatures (or 4.5 ounces of another size peanut butter cup)

Instructions

  • Grease an extra large mixing bowl, a 9-inch non-stick square baking pan, and a silicone spatula or wooden spoon with butter or baking spray. Set aside.
  • Cut the 4 tablespoons of salted butter into slices and place them in a medium-large saucepan.
  • Set the pan over LOW heat and allow the butter to begin melting.
  • Add the marshmallows, and stir occasionally until 75% of the marshmallows have melted.
  • Remove the pan from the heat, and stir the marshmallows until completely melted. This will ensure your marshmallows don't get too hot which causes hard treats.
  • Pour the cereal into the greased mixing bowl.
  • Chop 12 of the Reese's Cup Miniatures into small pieces. Toss in with the cereal.
  • Pour the melted marshmallows over the cereal.
  • Toss until the marshmallow evenly coats all the cereal. The chocolate peanut butter cups will get melty and ooey gooey!
  • Spread into an even layer in the greased baking pan.
  • Chop the three reserved Reese's Cup Miniatures into small pieces and sprinkle them over the top of the treats. Gently press them into the treats to ensure they stick. Don't smash them too much.
  • Let the treats cool at room temperature for at least 45 minutes.
  • Remove the treats from the pan and cut into 9 rectangle treats or 12 square bars.

Notes

Store your cereal bars in an airtight container for up to 5 days.
Or, place the bars in a single layer in a gallon-size zip-top bag and freeze for up to 3 months.
