I'm not sure how long the minis cereals will stick around in the grocery stores, but they are the perfect shape and size to make treats so I'm planning to make a variety of treats using them.
This easy no-bake recipe is perfect for kids, parties, or a quick sweet treat anytime. So ditch the oven and whip up a batch of these delightful Reese's Puffs Rice Krispie Treats today!
Ingredients
- Reese's Puffs Minis Cereal
- butter - We always recommend using European-Style salted butter because it has more butterfat (more flavor) than American-made butter. My favorite brands are Kerrygold and President Butter.
- marshmallows - You can use mini or regular-sized marshmallows. We highly recommend using Jet-Puffed Marshmallows. After making hundreds of batches of Rice Krispie Treats, we have found they have the best texture. Some store-brand marshmallows are way too sticky.
- Reese's Cups - Chop 12 miniature peanut butter cups into small pieces to toss into the cereal treat mixture and chop another 3 to sprinkle over the top of the cereal bars. If you use any other size Reese's Cup, you'll need 4.5 ounces.
Instructions
Melt 4 tablespoons of salted butter in a saucepan set over LOW heat. Stir in 10 ounces of marshmallows. Heat, stirring often, until about 75% of the marshmallows have melted. Remove from the heat and stir until melted.
Grease a large mixing bowl with butter and then fill it with 6 cups of Reese's Puffs Minis cereal. Toss in 12 of the Reese's Cups (chopped into pieces.) Pour the melted butter and marshmallows over the cereal.
Tip:
We recommend you allow the marshmallows to melt slowly over low heat. Removing the pan from the heat before they are all melted ensures the marshmallows don't get too hot. When you overheat the marshmallows, the sugars crystallize causing hard treats.
Fold the marshmallows and cereal together until the cereal is well-coated.
Grease a 9-inch (or 8-inch) square baking pan with butter. Spread the cereal mixture into an even layer.
Gently press the remaining Reese's Cup pieces over the pan of cereal treats. You want them to stick but you don't want to smash them too much.
Let the treats cool at room temperature for at least 45 minutes. Then cut them into 9 rectangles or 12 squares.
Variations
Mix in some Reese's Pieces to add color and crunch to these Reese's Puffs Minis Cereal Bars or toss in a handful of peanuts for an extra nutty flavor.
