Rice Krispie Nests

Every occasion needs a Rice Krispie treat, including Easter! Fill your Rice Krispie nests with any egg-shaped candy you like, such as Jelly Beans, chocolate-covered almonds, or candy eggs.

Here, I used our Cocoa Krispie treats recipe, but you can use any of your favorites. Try our original, the BEST Rice Krispie treat recipe. Chocolate cereal treats or Nutella cereal treats would also work well.

how to make Rice Krispie treats Easter nests

These Easter treats are fun to make with kids. They can help shape the nests and decorate with candy.

supplies you'll need:

  • non-stick cooking spray
  • cupcake trays

ingredients you'll need:

  • 4 ⅔ cups Cocoa Krispies
  • 10 ounces marshmallows (about 40 regular OR 6 cups mini)
  • 4 tablespoons salted butter (European preferred)
  • Jellybeans or candy eggs

let's make Easter treats!

The instructions here are for microwave Rice Krispie treats, but I'll include stove-top instructions below. I recommend spraying your bowls and spatulas with non-stick cooking spray.

Spray the cupcake tins with cooking spray (you'll need 16 to 18 cups).

Add the Cocoa Krispies to a large, greased bowl and set aside.

Place the marshmallows and butter in a microwave-safe bowl.  Microwave for 1 minute on high. Stir, and microwave for at additional 30 second intervals, if needed. Stir until very smooth.

Pour the mixture over the cereal and mix very well with a greased spatula.

Scoop 3 to 4 tablespoons of the cereal treats into a cup on the cupcake tray. Pat down and use a tablespoon to make a divot in the center. It helps to grease your fingers with a bit of cooking spray or water.

Fill your tray and chill to set the treats, about 1 hour.

Use a spoon to scoop a nest from the tray and top with Easter candy.

Makes 16 Rice Krispie nests.

how do you make Rice Krispie treats on the stove-top?

You may of course also make the treats on the stove top.

Melt the butter in a large saucepan over medium-low heat and add the marshmallows.

Continue to melt over medium-low heat, stirring frequently, until the mixture is very smooth. Pour the mixture over the Rice Krispies cereal in the bowl and follow the instructions above.
