Crispy and chewy marshmallow cereal treats are made using Honey Bunches of Oats. These cereal bars are packed with honey-flavored rice, corn, and wheat flakes mixed with granola clusters.
12ouncesHoney Bunches of Oats Cereal (about 6 cups)
4tablespoonssalted butter(European-style for the best flavor)
10ouncesmarshmallows
Instructions
Grease an extra-large mixing bowl and an 8-inch or 9-inch square baking pan with butter.
Pour the cereal into the extra-large mixing bowl and set aside.
Cut the butter into slices and place them in a medium-large saucepan set over LOW heat on the stove.
Allow the butter to begin melting then pour in the marshmallows.
Stir often until about 75% of the marshmallows have melted.
Remove the pan from the heat and stir until the marshmallows are melted and smooth.
Pour the melted marshmallows over the cereal and then stir until well blended.
Spread the marshmallow cereal treat mixture into your prepared pan.
Let the Honey Bunches of Oats bars cool at room temperature for at least 30 minutes and up to several hours.
Remove the treats from the pan and cut them into 16 squares.

Tips
Do not overheat your marshmallows or your cereal bars will be too hard.Do not smash the cereal treat mixture into the pan or your treats will be too hard.
Storage
Store your cereal bars in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days or freeze them in a zip-top bag or airtight container for up to 3 months.
Microwave Directions
If you prefer to melt your marshmallows in the microwave, combine the butter and marshmallows in a microwave-safe bowl, and heat on high power for 1 minute. Let the bowl rest in the warm microwave for 3 minutes, then remove and stir until the marshmallows have melted.
Large Batch
If you want to make a large batch of these Honey Bunches of Oats Bars using a 9x13-inch pan, melt 6 tablespoons of butter with one 16-ounce bag of marshmallows. Stir it into 9 cups of cereal (about 18 ounces).
