Students and teachers will give these Back-to-School Treats an A+.

Each gooey marshmallow Rice Krispie treat is topped with Bright White Candy Melts and is decorated to look like a piece of notebook paper that you can actually write on using a food coloring marker.

Back to School Rice Krispie Treats Notebook Paper

How much fun will your kids have writing on a sheet of edible Rice Krispie treat notebook paper?

They can write a special note to their teacher or schoolmate or they can practice their penmanship or math skills.

These notebook rice crispy treats will make a wonderful after-school snack, a great bake sale treat, or a fun teacher's gift.

To make these treats you will need to start by making a batch of our perfect Rice Krispie Treat recipe.

The treats have the perfect ratio of butter to marshmallows to cereal. They are crispy and gooey all at the same time.

To turn them into back-to-school treats, you need to add a smooth layer of Bright White Candy Melts. This will give your treats the look of white notebook paper and a nice flat surface on white to write.

Be sure to watch the video to see how to make the sheet of paper perfectly flat so you can easily draw on it using an edible ink pen.

Also, you might want to check out our Rice Krispie Treat FAQ for tips and tricks for making and storing your treats.

How to make back-to-school rice crispy treats?

you'll need:

RICE KRISPIES CEREAL

  • You'll use 7 cups of crisp rice cereal in this cereal treat recipe.
  • We recommend using the original Kellogg's Rice Krispies Cereal for the best flavor and texture.
  • See our taste test results where we compared a variety of cereals, here.

MARSHMALLOWS

  • You'll need a 16-ounce bag of marshmallows.
  • Always use the freshest marshmallows you have on hand. Fresh marshmallows make more delicately chewy treats.
  • If you can't find a 16-ounce bag of marshmallows, you can weigh, count, or measure the marshmallows so you have the right amount for this recipe. Check out our Marshmallow Conversion Chart.

BUTTER

  • We have found that European-style salted butter provides the best flavor in our cereal treats recipes. You'll be amazed at the difference good butter will make in this recipe.
  • In our taste test, we found that 6 tablespoons of butter will give the treats the richest flavor.
  • We recommend using KeriGold or President Butter but Kroger Private Selection French-style Butter is great too.

CANDY MELTS

  • You'll need two 12-ounce bags of Bright White Candy Melts to decorate 16 notepad paper crispy treats.
  • Each treat will be topped with about 1 ounce of white candy melts but you'll need extra to create a nice flat surface on top of the treats.

EDIBLE INK MARKERS

  • To make the lined notebook paper you will need to draw a red vertical line using a red food coloring marker. You'll also draw blue horizontal lines across the treat.
  • Optionally, you can use a black food writer pen to write letters or words on the paper.

TOOLS YOU'LL NEED:

  • medium-large saucepan
  • 9" x 13" baking pan
  • large mixing bowl
  • silicone spatula or large mixing spoon
  • butter or cooking spray to grease your pan, bowl, and spatula (I prefer the flavor of butter, but the non-stick spray works too.)
  • baking pans that will fit in your freezer
  • parchment paper to cover the baking pan
  • sharp knife - You'll use this to cut the white candy melts around the outer edge of the treats.
  • ruler - This will help you draw straight lines on your notebook paper treats.

Rice Krispie Treats cut into rectangle bars.

step 1 - Make Rice Krispie Treat Bars

  1. Grease a large mixing bowl with butter, or spray it with cooking spray, then pour in 7 cups of Rice Krispies Cereal.
  2. Begin to melt 6 tablespoons of European-style Salted Butter in a medium-large saucepan set over low heat.
European-style salted butter will really enhance the flavor of your treats.
  3. Add 16 ounces of marshmallows.
You can use either mini or traditional marshmallows. I prefer the mini marshmallows, as they melt really quickly.
  4. Stir the marshmallows occasionally until about ¾'s of them are melted.
  5. Then remove the pan from the heat, and continue to stir, smashing the marshmallows, until they have all melted.
  6. Pour the melted marshmallows over the cereal and toss to coat.
  7. Spread into a well-buttered, non-stick, 9 X 13-inch pan.
If you prefer, you can grease it using cooking spray.
  8. Set aside to cool for at least 30 minutes before cutting into 18 rectangles.

Brush a coat of white candy melts onto a Rice Krispie Treat then spread a thin layer on a pan, set the treat on top, then cut out around the edges.

step 2 - top treats with a smooth white surface

  1. Spread a thin layer of Bright White Candy Melts over the surface of a Rice Krispie Treats.
  2. Freeze the coated treat and a parchment paper-lined baking try for 3 minutes.
  3. Remove the pan and quickly spread a thin layer of white candy melts over the paper, making it about 4 inches by 3 inches.
  4. Immediately set the white candy melts coated treat into the wet chocolate.
  5. Let the chocolate begin to harden for 10-20 seconds.
  6. Use a sharp knife to cut straight edges in the white candy coating around the edges of the treat.
  7. Freeze for 3 more minutes.
  8. Remove and carefully break off the white candy coating around the edge of the treat.

You can put a few treats on a pan, just don't allow the white candy melts to harden completely, as they will be more difficult to cut into straight lines.

Draw lines onto Rice Krispie Treat Notebook Paper using Wilton Candy Writer food coloring pen.

step 3 - decorate the notebook paper treats

  1. Let the chilled treat sit at room temperature for at least 15 minutes before drawing on them.
  2. Using a red food coloring marker, draw a vertical line about ½ inch from the left edge of the treat.
  3. Then, draw horizontal blue lines across the paper.
  4. If desired, use a black marker to write letters or numbers on the paper.
  5. Let the ink dry for at least 1 hour before packaging your treats in plastic or cellophane bags.
